The Crisp County Board of Commissioners passed a mass gathering ordinance on August 11, 2026. The ordinance would require a permit for gatherings of more than 250 people. Commissioner Larry Felton made a motion to pass the ordinance, seconded by Commissioner Sam Farrow. The ordinance would have exceptions for events held at regularly established permanent places of worship, athletic fields, auditoriums, licensed event venues, or similar permanently established places, or buildings with the needed maximum seating capacity.
The ordinance is aimed at stopping “pop-up parties” where large numbers congregate. Those seeking a permit for more than 250 will have to get approval from the Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department, EMS, Environmental Health, and Planning and Zoning.
County Administrator Mickey Dunnavant commented on the ordinance. “It gives the Sheriff’s Office a responsible party to go to if something goes wrong.”
