PUBLIC HEARING - PROPOSED MILLAGE RATE
JULY 21, 2004

The Public Hearing was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman J. R. Dowdy, Jr., with Commissioners Ferrell Henry and Joyce Pheil in attendance. Others present were County Administrator Lester E. Crapse, Jr., and Finance Director Sherrie Leverett. Chairman Dowdy gave the invocation.

Administrator Crapse stated that this is a Public Hearing for public to comment on the proposed millage rate that the Board of Commissioners proposed at the last meeting, the millage rate for M & O is 11.054 mills county-wide, which is $120.00 in taxes less than was collected last year. He advised that this does not include the special tax district, which will be 1.374 mills for the unincorporated area, provided that everything stays the same. He stated that he has been advised that as of yesterday, we had 180 appeals on file, which is one-half of the allowable 3%, day after tomorrow is the closing date on appeals, and Tax Assessors, he and Mrs. Leverett think they are in very good shape in terms of being within the 3% on appeals to send a digest forward.

Motion was made by Mr. Henry to close the Public Hearing at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Mrs. Pheil, motion carried unanimously.
